No, Thanks

To every company offering unpaid internships and complaining about a lack of talented applicants: You want to know why it’s so hard to find “good talent?” Because you’re expecting people to work for free. The best and brightest can get any internship they want, and you know which one they’re going to choose? The one that pays. You may think your company is special. You may think it’s unique. You may think that what you offer is so great that people will work for nothing just for the pleasure of being there. You’re wrong. These days, there’s always another company that’s just as good as you, but the difference is they’re willing to pay to get better. The cost of an intern is a drop in the bucket, and yet could be the difference between a future CEO and future layoff. Loosen up the purse strings.
